Beste vrienden, familie, sympathisanten en filmliefhebbers,

Dit jaar studeren wij, Tibe en ik (Brecht), af aan Narafi. In het kader van ons afstudeerproject zijn we momenteel volop bezig met de voorbereidingen van onze kortfilm, die we zullen draaien eind april tot begin mei 2025.

Een kortfilm maken is helaas allesbehalve goedkoop. Hoewel de film slechts een tiental minuten zal duren, loopt het kostenplaatje toch op tot enkele duizenden euro’s. Denk aan uitgaven voor materiaal, kostuums, make-up, attributen, catering, elektriciteit, slaapplaatsen, vervoerskosten en acteurs.

Daarom doen we een warme oproep om ons project financieel te ondersteunen: elke sponsoring, hoe klein ook, betekent enorm veel voor ons.

Uiteraard willen we daar graag iets voor terugdoen! Voor wie ons financieel steunt, hebben we een aantal leuke tegenprestaties voorzien — een kleine manier om onze dankbaarheid te tonen.

OVER HET PROJECT

Het verhaal draait rond een 19-jarige jongen die rouwt om het verlies van zijn moeder. Tijdens een nachtelijke uitstap aan zee ontstaat er een bijzondere connectie tussen hem en de nieuwe vriendin van zijn vader.

Sinds de dood van zijn moeder staat Storms leven op zijn kop. Zijn vader is emotioneel afwezig en heeft bovendien al een nieuwe vriendin: de joviale Olivia. Zij doet oprecht haar best om een band met Storm op te bouwen en een vertrouwenspersoon voor hem te zijn, maar hij houdt haar op afstand.

Tot Olivia een manier vindt om tot hem door te dringen.

Wat volgt is een nachtelijk avontuur in Middelkerke, waar twee zoekende zielen elkaar ontmoeten. Ze praten over het leven, de liefde en de dood, en zetten samen kleine stappen richting volwassenheid.

MOTIVATIE

Met 'Sterrenstof' willen we een emotioneel en rauw verhaal vertellen waarin mensen zich kunnen herkennen. Volwassen worden vormt het centrale thema, maar daaruit vloeien zoveel andere universele vragen voort. Want wie heeft er nog nooit nagedacht over wat er met ons gebeurt na de dood? Of hoe je verder moet na het verlies van iemand die je liefhebt?

Wij bevinden ons zelf middenin het proces van volwassen worden, en worden steeds vaker geconfronteerd met de angsten, twijfels en verantwoordelijkheden die daarbij komen kijken. Precies daarom zijn wij de juiste mensen om dit verhaal te vertellen.

De thema’s die in de film aan bod komen, zijn stuk voor stuk persoonlijk. Wij geloven namelijk dat het onmogelijk is om films te maken waarin we onszelf niet herkennen.

Toen ik mijn papa verloor, stierf er een stukje van mezelf mee.
Plots moest ik de vaderfiguur binnen ons gezin worden — volwassenheid werd me in één klap opgedrongen. Dat heeft me harder gemaakt, rationeler. Soms ben ik bang dat ik een te groot deel van mijn jeugd heb moeten opgeven.
En als ik dan stilsta bij de eindigheid van het leven, kan dat me enorm beangstigen.

Met deze kortfilm kruipen we eigenlijk in mijn hoofd. Sommigen hebben een dagboek,
anderen muziek — ik heb 'Sterrenstof'.

This year, Tibe and I (Brecht) are graduating from Narafi. As part of our graduation project, we’re currently in full preparation for our short film, which we’ll be shooting from late April to early May 2025.

Unfortunately, making a short film is anything but cheap. Even though the film will only run for about ten minutes, the total cost still adds up to several thousand euros. Think of expenses like equipment, costumes, makeup, props, catering, electricity, accommodation, transportation, and actors.

That’s why we make a heartfelt appeal to financially support our project: every sponsorship, no matter how small, means a great deal to us.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The story follows a 19-year-old grieving the loss of his mother. During a nighttime outing by the sea,
he forms a special connection with his father’s new girlfriend.

Since his mother’s passing, Storm’s life has been completely turned upside down.
His father has become emotionally distant—and to make things worse, he already has a new girlfriend: the cheerful Olivia. She tries her best to connect with Storm, hoping to become a kind of confidante, but he keeps shutting her out.

That is, until Olivia finds her own way to gently break down his walls.

What follows is a nighttime adventure in Middelkerke, where two lost souls find comfort in one another. They talk about life, love, and death, gradually taking steps toward understanding and adulthood.

MOTIVATION

With 'Stardust', we want to tell an emotional and raw story that people can truly relate to. Coming of age is the central theme, but it naturally brings up many other universal questions. After all, who hasn’t wondered what happens to us after we die? Or how to move on after losing someone you love?

We ourselves are in the midst of growing up, and are increasingly confronted with the fears, doubts, and responsibilities that come with it. That’s exactly why we believe we’re the right people to tell this story.

The themes explored in the film are all deeply personal to us. We strongly believe that it’s impossible to make films in which we don’t recognize parts of ourselves.

When I lost my father, a part of me died with him. Suddenly, I had to step into the role of father figure within our family — adulthood was thrown at me. It made me a harder person, more rational. Sometimes I’m afraid I had to give up
too much of my youth. And when I think about the finality of life, it can fill me with fear.

With this short film, we’re essentially stepping into my mind.
Some people have a diary, others have music — I have 'Stardust'.
